Understanding Infertility and Helping You Get Pregnant
Have you waited to complete your education, meet the perfect mate and establish your career…only to realize that your biological clock has been ticking away? A woman’s fertility peaks in her 20’s and begins to decline around age 30. After age 35 fertility starts to decline very rapidly due to the woman’s egg quality. But PREG can help!
If you are over age 35, you may want to investigate your reproductive health sooner than later. One in seven couples or approximately seven million people will have challenges getting pregnant and will need assistance to conceive. PREG can help.
If you are single and desiring to start a family or if you are under the age of 35 and have been trying to become pregnant for over 12 months, you may be struggling with infertility. This window narrows to six months of unprotected intercourse if the patient is 35 or older. However, infertility affects both men and women equally. PREG is committed to treating all patients, men and women, with the compassion and empathy. If applicable, we advise both partners to be evaluated during your diagnostic work-up and participate in your fertility treatments.
Fertility 101
When patients think of the words “Fertility Treatment,” images of needles, pokes, prods and rounds of complicated IVF may come to their minds. However, PREG offers a variety of options that are personalized for each patient and their unique needs. These treatments may range from the least invasive ovulation induction cycles to the more complex donor egg or embryo adoption cycles. Here is a brief overview of the treatments we offer at PREG:
- Oral or injectable fertility medication to induce ovulation
- Artificial insemination, also known as Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), where sperm are washed, processed and concentrated prior to placement in the uterus. This is a first line treatment for women with cervical factor infertility.
- Surgery can help with such issues as endometriosis, fibroids and blocked fallopian tubes with options such as hysteroscopy, laparoscopy and microsurgery.
- Assisted reproductive technology (ART) are the most hi-tech procedures and have made healthy births possible for thousands of couples who previously would have been considered infertile. ART options include IVF, IVF with ICSI, IVF with egg donation, and traditional and gestational surrogacy. Learn more by seeing this YouTube video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLGENLi5L3E.
- Embryo Adoption. Patients can learn more by visiting the official site of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, and downloading their updated guide to useful reproductive facts and further helpful information. Learn more here: Embryo Donation: What should I know
- Many patients may not be aware that just as many males as females are affected with infertility. PREG also provides treatment options for couples struggling with male infertility and treats each patient with personalized care and compassion.
