Dr. Payne is a native South Carolinian. He finished his undergraduate degree at Furman University and earned his Medical Degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology, completing his Internship and Residency at Madigan Army Medical Center and then subspecialized in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility completing his REI Fellowship at Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Payne served in our U.S. Army for 17 years and had a distinguished military career achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was awarded many honors including the Army Meritorious Service Medal in Operation Iraqi Freedom, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
He was the Division Director for REI at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC overseeing the military’s largest IVF practice with over 450 cycles yearly and has trained many OBGYN residents and REI fellows and held multiple academic appointments including Assistant Professor, OB/GYN at USUHS School of Medicine, Clinical Associate, OB/GYN at Duke University Medical Center, and Clinical Instructor, OB/GYN at the Medical College of Georgia.
Dr. Payne has been published and presented numerous times. He is double Board Certified in OB/GYN as well as Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. In 2007, Dr. Payne joined Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group (PREG), later became a partner at PREG and serves as the director of third party reproduction. He is married with three children.
